X Factor chiefs have Sir Paul McCartney lined up for live final

Sir Paul McCartney to be the special guest star on the show’s live final next month.
The former Beatle is in talks to take to the stage on December 13 for his first appearance on the hugely popular ITV series.
If Macca signs, the theme for the grand final would be Beatles week, which has been postponed from tonight’s show. An X Factor insider revealed: “The big plan by Simon Cowell is to get Sir Paul for the final, which would be just fantastic.
“Everybody knows the Beatles wrote some of the best songs in history so it would be a sensational end for the series.”
Tonight the contestants will belt out numbers by either Wham or from George Michael’s solo career. [...]

Paul McCartney turned down Ozzy Osbourne collaboration

Paul McCartney once turned down the chance to collaborate with Ozzy Osbourne, according to the former Black Sabbath frontman.

The singer said he was "shocked" when the former Beatle turned down the opportunity to play bass on one of his songs.

"Meeting Paul McCartney was fucking phenomenal," Osbourne told Heat. "I was in the studio at the same time as him and tried to get him to play bass on one of my songs. But he said he couldn't improve on the bassline that was there. I said, 'Are you kidding? You could piss on the record and I'd make it my life'."

Paul is quite busy and how can he do that?

McCartney is due to play a one-off show at London's O2 Arena on December 22.

McCartney to receive Gershwin Prize

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Paul McCartney has been chosen to receive the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, a U.S. Library of Congress official confirmed Sunday.

The formal announcement is to be made Monday, The Washington Post reported. Librarian of Congress James H. Billington said in a statement Sunday McCartney will become the third songwriter to receive the award, following in the footsteps of Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder.

"It's hard to think of another performer and composer who has had a more indelible and transformative effect on popular song and music of several different genres than Paul McCartney," Billington said.

Sir Paul and Friends Rock the Royal Albert Hall

'Sir Paul McCartney sat at the piano and kicked off a stunning 'Hey Jude' finale to the show with the mega guest list of star performers belting out the 'na na na na na-na-na-na' chorus.'
The Sun

'He (Paul McCartney) rocked the Albert Hall with a Beatles set, including Hey Jude, on which Take That were sort of reunited as his backing vocalists, along with the rest of the cast.'
The Daily Telegraph

Last night Paul brought the house down at the Royal Albert Hall for the Children In Need Rocks the Royal Albert Hall Concert, a star-studded event organised by the Take That front man Gary Barlow. An all-star cast list stood in the wings to watch Paul storm the stage with 'Back in the USSR' followed up by 'Get Back'. As Paul struck the opening chords of 'Hey Jude' Take That appeared on stage to provide backing vocals, they were soon joined by Leona Lewis, Lily Allen, Cheryl Cole, Robbie Williams, Dizzee Rascal, Dame Shirley Bassey, Katherine Jenkins and many more. The sea of stars provided an energy packed finale to a fantastic evening.[...]

Old news (for me) but that's all right!

Macca takes campaign to Brussels
(UKPA) – 3 hours ago

Sir Paul McCartney is to take his "meat-free" campaign to Brussels next month as part of a European Parliament conference on the environment.

The former Beatle will urge people to cut back on eating meat as part of the battle against climate change.

He is attending a "Global Warming and Food Policy: Less Meat = Less Heat" hearing of MEPs and climate change and food experts just days before marathon UN climate change negotiations begin in Copenhagen.

PAUL McCARTNEY.COM . NEWS . /1781/2009-11: "Global Warming Hearing with Sir Paul McCartney and Dr Rajendra K. Pachauri

The European Parliament will host a major event on global warming and food policy on 3 December where Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Dr Rajendra K. Pachauri and environmental activist Sir Paul McCartney will urge legislators and experts to focus on what an individual can do to fight climate change, for example by eating less meat.

The 'Global Warming and Food Policy: Less Meat = Less Heat' hearing takes place on 3 December, in Parliament's plenary chamber, in Brussels, from 10.00 to 12.30, chaired by Vice-President Edward McMillan-Scott. The opening speech is to be delivered by Parliament's President Jerzy Buzek. It will be followed by a press conference.

The UN Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) produced a major report ‘Livestock’s Long Shadow’ in 2006 which demonstrated that meat production is much less efficient in the use of various inputs and very intensive in emissions of greenhouse gases and water use as compared to equivalent vegetarian food production.

On the eve of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen the event reflects a perception that climate change needs to be addressed at all levels – especially individual but also at local, regional, national, across Europe and worldwide.

As a legislative body, Parliament votes on the EU laws that help to slow climate change. Parliament has thoroughly examined climate change issues with respect to agriculture, food and development policies and will present its views to the heads of governments meeting in the Danish capital from 7 - 18 December 2009."

'ON A SLOW BOAT TO CHINA' VIDEO

PAUL McCARTNEY.COM . NEWS . /1766/2009-11I
Monday 26th October - Paul performed 'On A Slow Boat To China' at the tribute to composer Frank Loesser, which was held to benefit The Actors Fund.

"This was the first time I had ever done anything like this and I was a little nervous. In fact, this was my Broadway debut so I'm not surprised".

The audience of Broadway's Minskoff Theatre had come to see a special benefit gala called 'Chance and Chemistry' in a centennial celebration of Frank Loesser and Paul was accompanied by a small orchestra as he performed the song.

"Normally I've got a guitar or a piano to help me out but this time all I had was a hand mic but I had a great time all the same. The event raised more money than had been expected and will benefit members of the acting profession who have fallen on hard times".

"It was something completely different for me but I knew the song from family sing-songs when I was a kid and I admire Frank Loesser's writing and, in the end, it was a blast."

Q&A Sir Paul McCartney

Paul Website Q&A November 2009

11.11.2009
Question: Are you excited/nervous about playing your sell-out show at The O2 London?

Paul:Excited, you go to America, do concerts there and I am always conscious that people in Britain ask are you coming here and I am not always able to give a satisfactory answer, so I'm really glad to have the opportunity to bring the show, that we have been doing all over the world, back to my home land.

Question: Is it still a buzz that tickets sell-out so quickly?

Paul: Yeah, it really is great. You know if that happens that people in the audience really want to see you, so it helps when you do the shows to get a connection between you and the audience. I can really look at the audience and think, you tried really hard to get here and I’m grateful for that. That adds to the excitement of the evening.

Question: During the Memory Almost Full campaign you played some tiny shows, this year you have been packing out stadiums and you have even played to space before, which kind of show do you prefer and is there a different type of approach?

Paul: I like both kinds of shows. If you play a small gig it’s exciting because it’s intimate, instant and it reminds me of how I started out, but the problem can be that sometimes people say, oh I couldn’t get in, so that’s the advantage of doing a big show, you pretty much know that everyone who wanted to see you in that town will be able to get in. The approach has to be different for the stadium shows as you have to think bigger, so we use big screens mainly so the person at the absolute back can see the show clearly and therefore can feel involved.

Question: Lots of speculation in the chat rooms about ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ being in your set, any chance this could happen?

Paul: I must admit that the closeness of a couple of the shows to Christmas gives me the opportunity to do ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ which is great as it would be out of context for the rest of the year, it could be interesting to revive it for the Christmas shows.

Question: You are opening the tour in Hamburg was that a deliberate choice and how special is Hamburg to you?

Paul: It was suggested by my promoter but I like the idea very much of opening there because it echoes the opening of my career with The Beatles. The idea of going back to a city that I have so many fond memories of, so many early stories about is one that I am very happy about.

Question: Can you give us a word or sentence about each city you will be playing on the tour?

Q) Hamburg
Paul) Memories

Q)Berlin
Paul) Wall

Q)Arnhem
Paul)Poppies

Q)Paris
Paul) Romantic

Q)Cologne
Paul) Aftershave

Q) Dublin
Paul) Irish ancestors

Q)London
Paul) Capital

Question: Is there a particular track in your set that you look forward to?

Paul: At the moment it’s 'Sing the Changes' from The Fireman album.

Question: Opening Citi Field must have been an amazing feeling considering your history with Shea, was playing 'I'm Down' a particularly poignant moment?

Paul: Yeah it was good to be able to include it in the set, because of the fact it was something I remember very well from the original Shea concert and to do it now and be thinking of then at the same time was quite a tribute really.

Question: In the DVD ‘Good Evening New York City’, 75 hand held flip cameras were used in the filming, was this an idea you had been pursuing for a while and do you Flip?

Paul: Yeah, I had one given to me as a gift and they are very neat and extremely handy and great quality. So they idea of capturing the atmosphere from the audience point of view arose out of that.

Question: Congratulations on your Broadway debut, is there anywhere left you haven’t played that you would like to?

Paul: Lots of places!

Question: Would you ever consider playing one of your albums in its entirety? A ‘Band on the Run’ or ‘Memory Almost Full’ night?

Paul: Yeah, I have thought about doing that after reading about other bands like Fish doing the whole of the White Album, which I think they once did. I just wonder if it might be a tad boring, but you never know, it’s certainly a nice idea and the fun would be choosing which album to do. I think the less obvious albums would be more fun.

Question: You end the year on a high with the tour and the O2 show in London - is there any message you would like to give the users of Paul McCartney.com about this year and what they might expect next year?

Paul: My message to cyber viewers is first of all thanks for being there and paying attention. Secondly thanks for those of you who came to our shows. It’s been a very interesting year, I have had a lot of fun on and off stage and I hope to do more of the same in a different way next year.
